Brian Wilson and the SMiLE tour...Carnegie Hall, New York City, October 13, 2004
Review by Gary Pig Gold

Brian and Co., last night at Carnegie Hall, was an even more moving experience than I thought possible. The entire audience sat in utter, rapt attention throughout the duration of SMiLE (one man in front of me, eyes closed, was actually "conducting" all three movements from his seat; others nearby, including a couple'a young kids in the next row, kept turning silently to face one another, their mouths open, as if to say, "Did you hear what I just heard?!").

I truly loved the faux-Beach Boys Party opening set. "Marcella," especially, absolutely exploded.

The encores were a true blast as well (I doubt Carnegie had ever before made so much noise...since Andy Kaufman last performed there, at any rate ;-).

Then Brian sent us home with a touching "Love and Mercy" and a reminder to "drive safely."

A magic night.

Pure magic.
